The alternative of using CD / DVD for Linux Live is using USB. The advantages of using USB are more simple (without burn ISO to CD / DVD) and efficient (one USB can used for many Linux distributions). With Linux Live USB you can try and use Linux without install it on your hardisk. For Backtrack, the Live USB can be used for forensic purpose. UNetbootin is a free software that allows you to create bootable Live USB drives for Linux distributions without burning a CD. It runs on both Windows and Linux. Before that, prepare the tools first. Download UNetbootin from here http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ and download the ISO file of the Linux distribution that you want to install. If you want to install Backtrack, download Backtrack ISO file from here http://www.backtrack-linux.org/downloads/
Now Install and run the UNetbootin. Plug in your USB Drive and format it to FAT32
On Diskimage browse your Backtrack ISO file and set Drive with your USB Drive and then click Ok. Now wait for a few minute and now you can use your Backtrack.
